Privacy policy

Last updated September 28, 2026

This privacy notice for Fayted (“we,” “us,” or “our”) describes how and why we might access, collect, store, use, and share (“process”) your personal information when you use our services (“Services”), including when you visit our website at fayted.app or use Fayted.

Fayted is a free, mobile-first web application for reconnecting after a missed connection. You post an anonymous message tied to a specific place or event, such as a music festival, a college campus, or a bar. Posts are publicly readable without an account.

Questions or concerns? If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you have questions, contact us at info@fayted.app.

Summary of key points

We collect very little. To use Fayted you give us a phone number, which we verify by text message. We do not ask for your name, your email address, or a password, and there are no user profiles. Other people see only an auto-generated pseudonym.

Your phone number is never shown to anyone else. It is used to sign you in and to text you when something happens. It is never displayed to other users and never shared with third parties for marketing.

We do not track you around the internet. There is no advertising on Fayted, no ad networks, no retargeting, and no advertising cookies. We do not sell or share your personal information.

We do not process sensitive personal information and we do not collect information about you from other companies.

1. What information do we collect?

Information you give us

In short: we collect the personal information you provide to us.

We collect information you voluntarily give us:

  • Phone number. Required to create an account. Verified by a one-time passcode sent by text message.
  • Pseudonym. A display name generated for you automatically at your first post. It is not derived from any personal information. You can change it in settings.
  • Content you write. Posts, the verification question you set, answers you submit when claiming a post, and private messages after a match. All of it is text; Fayted does not support photo, audio, or video uploads.
  • Contact preferences. Your notification settings.
  • Email address, only if you write to us. We do not collect an email address to create an account. If you email our support address, we receive whatever address you send from.

Sensitive information. We do not process sensitive personal information.

Information collected automatically

In short: some information, such as your IP address and browser characteristics, is collected automatically when you visit.

Like any website, we automatically receive certain technical information when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, and information about how you use the Services. We use it to keep the Services running and secure, to prevent abuse, and to understand which parts of the product people use.

Location. We estimate your approximate location — roughly, your city — from your IP address, so we can show you places near you. That estimate is worked out as your request is served, and it is never attached to a post. Separately, our error reports and our page-view counts each keep a city-level location with their own records, so we can tell where a fault or a surge is happening; neither is linked to your posts or to your pseudonym. If you tap Use my location on the Places page, your browser asks you first; if you allow it, your device’s location is used on your device to find the places near you, and it is not sent to us or stored. We do not track your location in the background.

Cookies. We use cookies that are strictly necessary to sign you in and keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not allow third parties to place advertising cookies on the Services. Most browsers let you refuse cookies, but if you do, you will not be able to stay signed in.

2. How do we process your information?

In short: to run the Services, keep them safe, communicate with you, and comply with the law.

  • To create and manage your account and sign you in.
  • To deliver the Services — publishing posts, handling claims, and opening a private chat when a poster approves one.
  • To enable communication between users. When you match with someone, the two of you can message each other privately.
  • To moderate content. We review posts before publication using automated rules and an AI classifier, to enforce our content rules and protect people’s safety and anonymity. A person reviews ambiguous cases, and you can ask us to review any decision. First messages in a new chat receive a lighter check; existing conversations are reviewed only if someone reports them.
  • To send you service messages — a sign-in code, or a text when someone answers your question or a match is approved.
  • To send you occasional updates about places you have followed, if you have agreed to receive them. You can stop these at any time.
  • To protect the Services against abuse, fraud, and spam.
  • To promote Fayted. We may feature posts that are already public in material promoting the Services, such as our own social accounts. We never use private messages or claim answers this way, deleting a post removes it from our channels too, and you can ask us not to feature yours. This is set out in section 6 of our terms.
  • To understand and improve the product by looking at how the Services are used.
  • To respond to your questions and provide support.
  • To comply with our legal obligations and to establish or defend legal claims.

3. What legal bases do we rely on?

In short: we process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so.

If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you. We may process your information where you have given us express consent, or where consent can reasonably be inferred. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us.

In some cases we may be permitted to process information without consent — for example, for investigations and fraud prevention, where collection is clearly in an individual’s interest and consent cannot be obtained in time, or where disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, or court order.

4. When and with whom do we share your information?

In short: with service providers who help us run Fayted, and with authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell or share your personal information.

We share information with vendors and service providers who perform work on our behalf and need access to do it. We have contracts in place with them: they may not use your information for their own purposes, and they may not share it with anyone but us.

The categories of third parties we share information with are:

  • Cloud computing services
  • Website hosting service providers
  • Data storage service providers
  • User account registration and authentication services
  • Communication and collaboration tools, to deliver text messages
  • AI platforms, to review content before it is published
  • Data analytics services
  • Performance monitoring tools
  • Government entities, where required by law

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors who provide support services, such as customer service, is permitted. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties.

Other users. What you post publicly can be read by anyone, including people who do not have an account. Public posts carry no name at all — not even your pseudonym, and never your phone number. Your pseudonym is visible only to someone you have matched with. Inside a private chat, anything you choose to send — including contact details, if you decide to share them — goes to the other person in that conversation. There are no public profiles and no way for anyone to browse your history of posts.

Business transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with a merger, financing, or acquisition of all or part of our business.

5. How long do we keep your information?

In short: no longer than we need to, and no longer than you have an account with us.

We keep your personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this notice, unless a longer period is required by law. No purpose described here requires us to keep your personal information for longer than the period in which you have an account with us.

Posts and conversations are designed to be temporary rather than permanent, and we intend for them to leave public view over time. If you delete a post, we remove it immediately, including from any share previews. If you delete your account in Settings, we remove your posts, the answers you gave, your messages and your name straight away. We keep your phone number for 24 hours, so it cannot be used to sign up again at once, and then remove it. We keep the record of what you agreed to when you signed up, tied to no account once your number is gone.

When we no longer have a business need to process your information, we will delete or anonymise it. Where that is not immediately possible — for example, because information sits in a backup — we will store it securely and isolate it from further processing until deletion is possible.

6. How do we keep your information safe?

In short: through a system of organisational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect the personal information we process. However, no transmission over the internet and no storage technology can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure. We cannot promise that unauthorised third parties will never defeat our security. You should only access the Services in a secure environment.

If you believe you have found a security vulnerability, our contact details are published at /.well-known/security.txt.

7. Do we collect information from minors?

In short: no. Fayted is for people aged 18 and over.

We do not knowingly collect data from, solicit data from, or market to children under 18 years of age, nor do we knowingly sell such information. By using the Services you represent that you are at least 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable steps to delete the data promptly. If you believe we may have information from a person under 18, contact us at info@fayted.app.

8. What are your privacy rights?

In short: depending on where you live, you may review, change, or delete your information at any time.

In some regions, including Canada, you have rights under applicable data protection law. These may include the right to request access to and a copy of your personal information, to request correction or erasure, to restrict processing, to data portability, and not to be subject to automated decision-making. If a decision producing legal or similarly significant effects were ever made solely by automated means, we would tell you, explain the main factors, and offer a simple way to request human review.

Withdrawing your consent. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time by contacting us. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew it.

Opting out of marketing messages. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE to any text message we send, by changing your notification preferences in your account settings, or by contacting us. You will still receive service messages necessary to run your account, such as sign-in codes.

Your account. You can change your name or delete your account in Settings, or contact us and we will delete it for you. Deleting it removes your information from our active databases straight away, except for your phone number, which we keep for 24 hours so it cannot be used to sign up again at once, and the record of what you agreed to when you signed up. We may also retain some records to prevent fraud, assist investigations, enforce our terms, or comply with legal requirements.

If you have questions about your privacy rights, email us at info@fayted.app.

9. Controls for do-not-track features

Most browsers include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) setting. No uniform standard for recognising DNT signals has been finalised, so we do not currently respond to them. California law requires us to tell you this. If a standard is adopted, we will describe our practice in a revised version of this notice.

10. Do United States residents have specific privacy rights?

In short: if you live in a state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal information.

If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and details of how we have processed it, to correct inaccuracies, to obtain a copy, and to delete it. You may also have the right to withdraw consent. These rights may be limited in some circumstances by applicable law.
